Origins of Avocado Toast

So how did a central American fruit end up on bread and how did an egg join this recipe? Well, according to The Washington Post, avocado toast was first made in 1993 by famous chef William Granger. However, it is believed that avocado toast existed as early as 1929 in Australia. The dish garnered a lot of attention during the previous decade after a lot of celebrities started consuming it in expensive restaurants and cafes. However, homemade avocado toast need not be a costly affair. Due to its simplicity, you can add other ingredients to it, such as making it gluten-free, vegan, or in this case, adding a grated egg to the mix.

  2. Take one Licious white or brown egg and boil it in water for 8-10, or as long as you want till it becomes hard boiled. For those who like it a little bit runny, a shorter time frame is recommended.
  3. Once the egg has boiled, transfer it into a bowl of cold water and allow it cool. After it has lost its heat, peel the outer shell.
  4. Now, take the ¼ half of the avocado. Make sure to scoop out the seed, and then mash it in a separate bowl. Add the salt and pepper to the mashed avocado. Alternatively, you can season the toast at the end.
  5. Then, take a slice of whole wheat/regular or multi-grain bread and spread the mashed avocado evenly onto its surface.
  6. Now, slice the boiled egg and place it on the toast.
  7. Season the dish with salt and pepper to taste. Finally, place the slice of toast on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Alternatively, toast the bread first, add some mayonnaise onto the toast, followed by the mashed avocado, and finally the boiled egg over it. And there you have it, delicious avocado toast with egg made in an oven or a pan.
