The origins of chicken wings

The origins of chicken wings are actually quite interesting. Though there are many different theories out there, it is widely believed that they were first created in Buffalo, New York. The story goes that a restaurant owner there was looking for a way to use up the chicken parts that people weren’t ordering. So, he came up with the idea of deep frying them and coating them in a hot sauce. And thus, the Buffalo wing was born.

The origins of peri-peri chicken wings

The origins of peri-peri chicken wings can be traced back to Portugal, where the dish is said to have originated. The name “peri peri” is derived from the Portuguese word for “pepper”, which is fitting given that the dish is typically made with a chilli pepper-based sauce.

Peri peri chicken wings are thought to have first gained popularity in the United States in the early 2000s when they began appearing on menus at Portuguese and Brazilian restaurants. These days, they can be found at most casual dining establishments.
