Instructions
  1. Wash the chicken thoroughly and drain out the excess water. Add the marination ingredients such as ginger-garlic paste, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt. Mix thoroughly and set the marinated chicken aside for 30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, add oil to a deep-bottomed pan and place it on a medium high heat. Once the oil is hot enough, add the onion paste and let it cook until it turns slightly brown. Add the tomato puree along with coriander powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and salt. Combine everything together and add the marinated chicken pieces and water to the pan. Stir well and place a lid over the pan. Let the chicken cook for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Once the chicken is cooked, get ready to smoke it. Roast a piece of coal on low flame and let it get hot. Then using tongs, place the hot coal in a small bowl and pour some oil or ghee over it. Immediately place the bowl over the chicken curry and close it with a lid. Let the coal sit inside for 2-5 minutes.
  4. Once the chicken is smoked properly, remove the bowl. Garnish the smoked chicken curry with coriander leaves and squeeze some lemon juice over it. Serve it hot with naan or steamed rice.
