What are Crab Sticks?

Surprisingly, ‘crab sticks’ are not always made from crab meat. If you search for the item on the internet, you might find words like ‘imitation’ being used. Crab sticks were invented in Japan by Katsuichi Osaki who realised that leftover fish tasted like real crab when soaked in crab juice. The name ‘crab sticks’ was applied to this snack as a marketing gimmick. In truth, the Japanese name for crab sticks is “kani fumi” which translates to fish stick – crab flavoured.

However, this does not mean that you can’t get or rather create the real deal. The recipe we have for you today is made with real crab meat, tastes fantastic and contains absolutely no crab flavoured fish meat.

Blue crab meat is juicy, tender, and delicate. It can be easily made into fried crab sticks. Instead of rushing down to your wet market in the wee hours of the morning, order fresh crabs from Licious

The blue crab also has several health benefits:

  • It is a rich source of protein.
