Paal Sura is and was one of the most important dishes of Tamil Nadu, often used as a staple or everyday food item. To date, you can find this as a side dish on any lunch menu. Slowly, this delicacy is becoming known in other parts of India. Dive into the world of sura fish with sura puttu. The recipe is easy to follow, quick, and simple. It makes for an easy and delicious side dish for lunch or dinner.
Instructions
  1. Salt the fish and let it rest for 10 minutes then set it aside.
  2. Steam it for 10-15 minutes on medium flame. Once done, set it aside to cool. When the fish has cooled down, use a fork to flake it apart.
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Add urad dal and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
  4. Add curry leaves along with crushed ginger and garlic.
  5. Give the mixture a good stir.
  6. Add chopped onions and saute them well for roughly 4-5 minutes, until they start to turn brown.
  7. Add turmeric and pepper powder and saute for an additional minute.
  8. Finally, add the fish flakes to the mixture. Give everything a good stir and check for salt.
